A Solid, Practical Concept of Governance

An independent board of directors governs the Grand River Film Festival or "GRFF". The board is comprised entirely of volunteers in the organization who run both the day-to-day, as well as the annual affairs of GRFF. Since GRFF's inception, the board has been is committed to a strong governance model and meets monthly … and of course, more often close to the festival time. Board members include community volunteers and leaders from different backgrounds of expertise including arts management, marketing, legal, public accounting, film distribution, investment manager and other interested film enthusiasts

Budget revenues vary from year to year of between $50,000 to $75,000 that includes government support, corporate sponsorship and other fundraising, advertising and earned revenue from ticket sales. Corporations show their support thru in kind contributions and cash sponsorships that currently comprise a significant portion of our revenues

Our costs include festival production costs including screening fees, special event costs, programming and special guest costs, marketing and advertising and a small amount for administration. A significant volunteer effort, mainly in administration allows us to keep our costs to a minimum. Every month, our Treasurer prepares financial information, budget and estimated annual projections on a monthly basis to help control costs and balance annual revenues and expenditures. We are proud to be able to report a modest accumulated surplus carried forward to the current year as a result of prudence over the past.
